Zero electrostatic shock in the film winding process
Case study at an industrial and packaging film manufacturer
At a chemical manufacturer’s film factory, static electricity shock during film winding operations has been a problem. Static electricity on film is a major problem that must be solved at film manufacturing plants because it not only causes product defects, but also greatly impairs the workability of workers. In addition to being prone to static electricity, films have a large surface area, making foreign matter adhesion a problem. To avoid foreign matter problems, highly-functional films, especially those used in electronics, displays, and medical equipment, are often manufactured in cleanrooms. At this factory, too, all operations were conducted in a cleanroom. Therefore, the factory was troubled by the fact that they could not use a conventional air-assisited static eliminator that uses compressed air or fan air to eliminate static electricity. The reason was that using a air-assisted static eliminator would cause foreign objects to roll up, which in turn would result in a high incidence of foreign object defects. |
This situation was greatly improved by installing the TRINC’s PHASED ARRAY IONIZER (TAS-811 SFS). The TRINC’s PHASED ARRAY IONIZER works without airflow, and in addition, it distributes ions widely throughout the work area to neutralize all static electricity in the area (Space ionizing). The effect of space ionizing eliminates any electrostatic shock and solves the problem. In addition to the static shock problem, space ionizing can simultaneously neutralize the static charges of the product and foreign matter, which greatly improves productivity and yield rates by preventing foreign matter from sticking to the product.
In film manufacturing plants, there are many cases where work in explosion-proof areas is required for coating and laminating processes, etc. In such cases, TRINC’s explosion-proof certified TRINC series can be expected to be equally effective. We are very pleased to hear that there are many other processes that can be horizontally expanded with this improvement case study.
